We provide advanced analytics for various shipping-company needs through specific reports or through dedicated web apps we can develop for our clients.
We transform raw operational data into actionable insights that drive efficiency, reduce emissions, and therefore reduce costs.
Our analytics can include hull & propeller performance, engine & auxiliary performance based on clients' available datasets, either high frequency Autologged data or traditional noon reports.
Our own code and methods were benchmarked against leading industry competitors and results can be found in the proceedings of HullPIC 2026.
In the shipping industry there is the need to describe accurately the relationship of fuel consumption against speed of a ship in various sailing conditions, which is what is called in the industry as fuel tables. This could be either for contracts with charter parties or to be used as a baseline for accurate analytics. By these means the fuel tables are the digital twin of a ship in numerical calculations. To build that on the background we use a mathematical model that estimates the ship physics through the use of whatever the client prefers, like, sea trials, model tests, CFD or AI techniques.
Choosing the right Energy Saving Devices (ESD) and Wind-Assisted Ship Propulsion (WASP) requires deep technical expertise with vessel-specific analysis. We guide shipowners through the selection process through market presentation of the best available devices and in secondary level we offer device-specific tests like computational fluid dynamics, or real-world performance validation with data from ships. As we consider these devices as strategic investments, along the technical we provide also a detailed economic evaluation of them, through estimating the potential return on investment, taking into account the economic benefit such devices provide through emission regulations, like CII.
Through operational excellence we mean the optimal operation of the energy onboard like the optimal usage of the auxiliary engines, boiler and shaft generator or even waste heat recovery systems. A digital platform or dedicated reports would be a comprehensive way to monitor how close to optimal the usage of such systems was onboard the examined vessels.
In addition to that, more detailed energy audits can happen with physical presence onboard with one of our partners, to examine and ensure optimal usage of various onboard equipment.
As a partner of shipping companies we can provide a technoeconomic report for your fleet-level decarbonization targets. The energy efficiency measures that we mentioned in the other services are of course a part of it, but here we focus as well on the variable scenarios of alternative fuels for shipping.
We can be a partner of your choices among black, blue and green fuels which might be in supply in the market.
Taking into account where your vessels will be sailing, this includes a cost by fuel type and by region, taking into account the costs of corresponding emissions in all Emission regulation schemes, like MRV, IMO DCS, CII, EEDI, FUEL EU Maritime and EU ETS.
Reliable analytics depend on reliable data. We can review the quality and completeness of the available measurements, examine the behavior of critical sensors, and identify limitations that may affect the confidence of performance conclusions.
This can include checks on speed logs, shaft power or torsion measurements, fuel-related signals, logging systems, metadata completeness, and the overall suitability of the dataset for performance analysis or digital-twin work.
You may already have one or more performance monitoring systems or weather routing services onboard, or you may be in the process of selecting a new vendor. We can provide an independent technical view on the methods used by different vendors and on how suitable they are for the needs of your fleet.
This can include comparison of performance monitoring systems, hull paints and coatings, weather routing providers, and engine-selection alternatives, always with emphasis on practical applicability rather than brochure claims.
We leave an open door — our previous descriptions of services may not include all the aspects where we can help a shipping company.

Maritime expertise built on a decade of hands-on experience
Perception Consultancy was founded in 2022 as an independent maritime advisory practice focused on vessel performance, decarbonisation, and digital transformation. The aim is to provide technically grounded support for shipping companies and maritime technology teams.
Our work spans a diverse portfolio of projects, with our most prominent client being CMA CGM, where our founder served as Senior Consultant for three years. During this time, we developed and implemented advanced analytics platforms that achieved remarkable results, including 2023 savings equivalent to offsetting the carbon footprint of a city of 25,000 French citizens.
Our expertise covers the full spectrum of maritime performance: from analyzing hundreds of vessels including even heavy lift carriers or some the world's largest containerships, to developing sophisticated physics-or Ai based models (which we started since 2013).
